I studied painting and printmaking at Exeter College of Art and for many years taught art in schools and worked in environmental education, conservation and gardening.
After living and working in Wales for many years I moved to Scotland and my work rapidly developed a new vibrancy and sense of place rooted in the local landscape. My work has always concerned the natural world and I have always had a strong interest in surface texture and pattern
I collect leaves and flowers from woodlands, hedgerows and garden walks. After a few weeks of pressing the fragile flowers and leaves are ready to use.
Patterns and geometry are key to my work – which is reminiscent of patchwork quilts and formal garden design. Pressed leaves are cut into squares and used to create formal geometric patterns. They provide the backbone of the work which is then interspersed with delicate leaves and flowers, and sometimes the odd drop of gold leaf. I like to collect leaves and flowers from special gardens or during a woodland walk. I am also developing a freer style of working involving using water colour paint with pressed natural materials.
I sell a range of work including unframed pieces, prints, cards, leafworks kits and boxes of greetings cards.
Prices range from £2.50 - £800
